The V&A Museum, Dundee
CBA are currently involved with the construction of the iconic V&A Museum of Design Dundee, providing full Quantity Surveying Services.
The building envelope is created by a reinforced concrete structural wall clad in reconstituted precast units externally and timber cladding internally creating an organic, layered and textured form. Built over three storeys, the building will be fully fitted out to provide permanent and touring Exhibition Galleries, Design Lounge, Auditorium, Learning Spaces, Museum Shop, Café, Restaurant, along with office space and ancillary areas.
The project commenced on Site in March 2015, with the main works due for completion in December 2017, followed by further fit-out works of the Gallery / Exhibition and Public spaces.
The V&A Dundee will be an international centre of design for Scotland. It will celebrate Scotland’s historic importance in design and host major exhibitions of outstanding international design that will appeal to the widest public and help develop understanding of our own and others’ cultural heritage. V&A Dundee will become indispensable to makers, teachers and industry nationwide as a place for the cultivation and exchange of knowledge, opportunity and design innovation. It will develop opportunities for diverse communities to engage with, learn from and enjoy design creativity of the past, present and future. V&A Dundee will play a vital role in Dundee’s ambitious plans for regeneration, symbolising the city’s high cultural and economic aspirations.
The V&A is the world's leading museum of art and design and it has, as a key element of its UK strategy, entered into partnership with Dundee to help broaden public access. As a consequence, V&A Dundee will show major exhibitions of outstanding international design, provided by and developed in collaboration with V&A and other partners, national and international. These will take place in a building which embodies world-class design, encapsulating the V&A’s innovative attitude, confident ambition and international outlook.
Through its design-led business innovation programme, V&A Dundee will make a nationally important contribution to Scotland’s development as a leading global player in design, helping to drive cultural and economic growth. This work will be integrated within V&A Dundee’s overall education ambitions which will provide opportunities for the broadest range of communities to understand, learn from, interact with and be inspired by our rich creative culture, past, present and into the future.
